About the role
We are looking for a Senior Salesforce Engineer to join the platform team of a leading global consumer goods and beverages company.
The team is responsible for developing and maintaining the organization's Salesforce applications, including Commerce Cloud, and integrating the platform with enterprise systems such as SAP and existing legacy applications.
This is a highly hands-on engineering role, focused on Salesforce development rather than administration or configuration. We are looking for an experienced engineer with deep expertise in Apex and Lightning Web Components, capable of independently designing, developing, testing, deploying, and troubleshooting complex Salesforce solutions.
As one of the first senior engineers joining a growing platform team, you will also play an important role in establishing engineering practices, supporting other developers, and helping resolve technical challenges, including production issues and failed deployments.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain Salesforce applications across the platform, including solutions involving Salesforce Commerce Cloud.
- Build scalable and reusable Apex solutions, applying bulkification, governor limits, single-trigger-per-object patterns, and trigger handlers.
- Design asynchronous processing using Queueable, Batch Apex, Future methods, and Platform Events, managing transaction boundaries appropriately.
- Develop Lightning Web Components (LWC) and Lightning base components, ensuring efficient component architecture, state management, and performance.
- Apply Salesforce security best practices, including CRUD/FLS, sharing models, user-mode SOQL/DML, stripInaccessible, and security considerations for Experience Cloud guest and external users.
- Write efficient and selective SOQL queries, optimizing performance for large data volumes, indexing, and data skew scenarios while avoiding SOQL and DML operations inside loops.
- Implement test-driven development (TDD) practices, creating meaningful unit tests, test data factories, mocked callouts, negative tests, and bulk tests beyond minimum code coverage requirements.
- Evaluate and implement declarative solutions using Salesforce Flow, determining when Apex is more appropriate and resolving order-of-execution conflicts.
- Design and develop integrations between Salesforce and enterprise systems, including SAP, using REST/SOAP APIs, middleware, Named Credentials, External Credentials, Platform Events, and Change Data Capture.
- Ensure integration reliability through retry mechanisms, idempotency patterns, and consistent error handling.
- Maintain and evolve existing Salesforce applications and legacy application components.
- Work with Git, Salesforce CLI (SFDX), sandboxes, scratch orgs, and deployment pipelines, resolving metadata dependencies and troubleshooting failed deployments.
- Use AI-assisted coding tools to support development while critically reviewing generated code for security, governor limits, performance, and testing quality.
- Investigate and resolve production issues using debug logs, event monitoring, log analysis, and issue reproduction across Salesforce orgs.
- Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and troubleshooting support to other engineers as the platform team grows.
- Collaborate with engineering teams and business stakeholders to ensure solutions are maintainable, secure, and aligned with business needs.
Requirements
- 7+ years of software development experience, including strong hands-on Salesforce engineering experience
- Administration or configuration experience alone is not sufficient.
- Expert-level knowledge of Apex, including bulkification, governor limits, trigger handler patterns, and asynchronous processing.
- Strong hands-on experience developing Lightning Web Components (LWC) and working with Lightning base components, including wire vs
- imperative calls, events, Lightning Data Service, and Jest testing.
- Solid understanding of Salesforce security, including CRUD/FLS, field-level security, sharing models, and secure data access.
- Advanced SOQL skills, including selective queries, indexing, query optimization, and the Query Plan tool.
- Experience implementing TDD and automated testing beyond Salesforce's 75% code coverage minimum, including HttpCalloutMock, Stub API, and bulk testing.
- Experience building and debugging record-triggered Flows, with the ability to determine when declarative tools or Apex should be used.
- Proven experience developing Salesforce integrations with SAP or other enterprise systems, using REST/SOAP APIs, middleware, and integration best practices.
- Strong knowledge of Salesforce DevOps, including Git branching strategies, Salesforce CLI (SFDX), pull requests, sandboxes, scratch orgs, and deployment pipelines.
- Experience troubleshooting metadata dependencies, deployment failures, and production incidents.
- Experience using AI coding tools, with the technical judgment to review, validate, and explain AI-generated code.
- Ability to work independently, make technical decisions, and take end-to-end ownership of development tasks.
- Strong communication skills and willingness to mentor and support other engineers.
- Sound judgment when managing operational risks and production changes.
Nice to have
- Salesforce Certified Platform Developer certification (formerly Platform Developer I / PD1).
