About the role

We are looking for a Senior Technical Architect at Director level to join a highly experienced team as the technical leader responsible for shaping the technical strategy, landscape, and architecture for a global business division.

You will define the division’s technical direction, ensuring technology choices are modern, secure, scalable, reusable, and aligned with enterprise architecture standards. You will translate business priorities into a clear target architecture and serve as a trusted technical advisor to senior business and Digital leaders, enterprise architects, and platform teams.

While this is a strategic leadership role, it also requires a hands-on approach. You will frequently operate as a Forward Deployed Engineer, embedding yourself with delivery teams to navigate complex technical challenges, unblock execution, and connect architectural vision with operational reality.

In this role, you will help ensure the division has a clear and actionable technical strategy and target architecture aligned with business and enterprise priorities. You will drive architecture decisions that promote security, scalability, reuse, and long-term sustainability, while helping engineering and delivery teams move faster by resolving technical ambiguity and complex challenges.

You will also identify opportunities to establish reusable standards, patterns, and capabilities across teams and divisions, while building trusted partnerships with senior business and Digital stakeholders and translating complex technology decisions into clear business outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain the technical strategy for a global business division, connecting business priorities, enterprise architecture standards, and emerging technologies into an actionable roadmap and target-state architecture.
  • Own and oversee the division’s technical landscape and architecture, establishing technical standards, integration patterns, and reference architectures.
  • Represent the division in the Architecture Review Board, evaluating proposed solutions and making architecture decisions that align with business priorities, enterprise standards, platform strategy, security, and long-term sustainability.
  • Ensure divisional technology needs are aligned with enterprise platforms and shared capabilities, promoting reuse and clean integration across the broader technology landscape.
  • Identify opportunities to create reusable technical standards, patterns, and delivery practices that can scale beyond the division.
  • Partner with senior business and Digital leaders as a trusted technical advisor, translating ambiguous needs into practical technical choices, delivery models, and measurable outcomes.
  • Embed with engineering and delivery teams when needed to solve complex technical problems, remove technical blockers, and ensure architectural decisions work effectively in practice.
  • Define how AI, automation, and modern engineering practices can be responsibly applied to improve speed, quality, decision-making, and delivery efficiency.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering and delivery teams, raising technical standards through influence and collaboration.
  • Establish and uphold expectations for reliability, security, documentation, observability, and operational excellence across the division’s technical landscape.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Significant experience in technical architecture, engineering, technology strategy, or related technical leadership roles.
  • Proven experience defining technical strategy, architecture, or the technical landscape for a significant business area, product, or technology domain.
  • Deep, hands-on technical expertise across modern engineering practices, cloud platforms, data and integration patterns, APIs, security, and reliability.
  • Experience acting as a technical advisor, design authority, or architecture decision-maker, guiding teams and stakeholders through influence rather than direct authority.
  • Experience partnering with senior business and Digital stakeholders to shape technical direction, evaluate trade-offs, and deliver measurable outcomes.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to create clarity in complex and ambiguous situations.
  • Strong understanding of scalability, automation, performance, security, and operational excellence, with a mindset focused on building solutions that can scale and be operated effectively.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and work effectively across functions and organizational levels.
  • Previous experience in technology consulting or a consulting environment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, diverse environment with changing priorities and multiple initiatives.
  • Strong curiosity and adaptability, with the ability to quickly learn new concepts, business models, and technologies.

Nice to have

  • Advanced degree in a technology, engineering, or related discipline.
  • Experience working in a highly regulated, global enterprise environment, particularly with complex compliance, privacy, security, and risk requirements.
  • Experience applying AI-enabled delivery, automation, and platform reuse to improve speed, quality, and efficiency.
  • Proven track record of influencing senior stakeholders, building trusted partnerships, and driving decisions in ambiguous situations.
  • Recognized technical depth in a business domain such as Life Sciences, Commercial, R&D, Manufacturing & Supply, or enabling functions.
  • Prior experience or established connections within the Life Sciences industry.
  • Experience participating in or working with Architecture Review Boards or similar enterprise architecture governance bodies.
  • Experience as a Forward Deployed Engineer or in a similar role requiring close collaboration with delivery teams to solve complex technical challenges.
